Republicans v. Columbia County
Second Home Owners
Greg Fingar, Chairman of the Columbia County Republican Party continued his assault on the rights of second home owners who want to vote in Columbia County. The court case which pits Fingar as Chairman against Chris Nolan, the Columbia County Democratic Committee Chairman, continues in its slow pace as it tries to come to a ruling on the disputed absentee ballots in the Town of Taghkanic. The Republicans have claimed that 2nd home owners are ineligible to vote here if they maintain residences in other places--by and large, they mean New York City. In a previous session they outlined their desire to issue subpoenas for a wide range of documentation which they say will prove their premise that these voters have their primary residence in NYC, a circumstance which, they say makes them ineligible to vote here. At Monday's hearing there was extensive discussion about what the Judge could allow them to demand from the challenged voters.
